# Audio Troubleshooting

Solutions for microphone and audio problems.

## Microphone Not Detected

### Check System Permissions

**Windows:**

1. Settings → Privacy → Microphone
2. Ensure "Allow apps to access your microphone" is ON
3. Scroll down and enable Echophrase specifically

**macOS:**

1. System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy
2. Select Microphone
3. Check the box next to Echophrase

**Linux:**

1. Check PulseAudio/PipeWire settings
2. Ensure your user is in the `audio` group
3. Try: `sudo usermod -aG audio $USER` then log out/in

### Verify in Echophrase

1. Open Settings → Audio
2. Check the Input Device dropdown
3. Select your microphone manually if needed

## Poor Audio Quality

### Reduce Background Noise

1. Enable noise suppression in Settings → Audio
2. Use a headset or directional microphone
3. Move away from fans, AC units, etc.

### Improve Recognition

1. Speak clearly and at a moderate pace
2. Position the microphone 6-12 inches from your mouth
3. Avoid speaking while typing or moving

## No Sound Feedback

If you don't hear start/stop sounds:

1. Check Settings → General → Sound Feedback is enabled
2. Verify your system volume is up
3. Check your default audio output device
