Audio Troubleshooting

Solutions for microphone and audio problems.

Microphone Not Detected

Check System Permissions

Windows:
  1. Settings → Privacy → Microphone
  2. Ensure “Allow apps to access your microphone” is ON
  3. Scroll down and enable Echophrase specifically
macOS:
  1. System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy
  2. Select Microphone
  3. Check the box next to Echophrase
Linux:
  1. Check PulseAudio/PipeWire settings
  2. Ensure your user is in the audio group
  3. Try: sudo usermod -aG audio $USER then log out/in

Verify in Echophrase

  1. Open Settings → Audio
  2. Check the Input Device dropdown
  3. Select your microphone manually if needed

Poor Audio Quality

Reduce Background Noise

  1. Enable noise suppression in Settings → Audio
  2. Use a headset or directional microphone
  3. Move away from fans, AC units, etc.

Improve Recognition

  1. Speak clearly and at a moderate pace
  2. Position the microphone 6-12 inches from your mouth
  3. Avoid speaking while typing or moving

No Sound Feedback

If you don’t hear start/stop sounds:
  1. Check Settings → General → Sound Feedback is enabled
  2. Verify your system volume is up
  3. Check your default audio output device
