Solutions for microphone and audio problems.
Microphone Not Detected
Check System Permissions
Windows:
- Settings → Privacy → Microphone
- Ensure “Allow apps to access your microphone” is ON
- Scroll down and enable Echophrase specifically
macOS:
- System Preferences → Security & Privacy → Privacy
- Select Microphone
- Check the box next to Echophrase
Linux:
- Check PulseAudio/PipeWire settings
- Ensure your user is in the
audio group
- Try:
sudo usermod -aG audio $USER then log out/in
Verify in Echophrase
- Open Settings → Audio
- Check the Input Device dropdown
- Select your microphone manually if needed
Poor Audio Quality
Reduce Background Noise
- Enable noise suppression in Settings → Audio
- Use a headset or directional microphone
- Move away from fans, AC units, etc.
Improve Recognition
- Speak clearly and at a moderate pace
- Position the microphone 6-12 inches from your mouth
- Avoid speaking while typing or moving
No Sound Feedback
If you don’t hear start/stop sounds:
- Check Settings → General → Sound Feedback is enabled
- Verify your system volume is up
- Check your default audio output device
