Your voice never leaves your computer

Transcription runs entirely on your device. Your microphone audio and the text it produces are processed by AI models running locally on your GPU - no audio and no transcript is ever uploaded, streamed, or sent to any server. That guarantee is about your audio and text, not about the app being silent on the network. Echophrase also downloads models you pick, checks for updates, syncs entitlements if you sign in, and sends anonymous app stats by default (opt-out below). None of those requests contain audio or transcripts - the full host list is below.

We never see your voice or text

Audio recordings are deleted immediately after transcription. Transcription text stays in your clipboard or file - we have zero access to it. There is no “cloud processing” option. This is by design.

What we do collect

We collect anonymous, non-identifiable telemetrics to make better product decisions - like which GPU backends people use, which AI models are most popular, and what the best default settings should be. None of this is tied to a user ID or account.

Desktop app (Aptabase)

GPU backend, selected model, recording mode, feature toggles (paste-at-cursor, filler word removal). Sent to our self-hosted Aptabase instance - data never leaves our infrastructure.

Website (Umami)

Page views, referrer, browser type, country. Sent to our self-hosted Umami instance - cookieless, no tracking across sites, and it honors your browser’s Global Privacy Control signal (the site tells you when it does).
Every single event is listed, property by property, on What We Collect. Echophrase asks on first run, with the box pre-checked, and every event respects your answer - including the install count. You can change it anytime in Settings > Data > “Send anonymous app stats”: one toggle, no confirmation prompt. One final event is sent to confirm the opt-out, then all tracking stops. Launching with DO_NOT_TRACK=1 (or ECHOPHRASE_NO_TELEMETRY=1) overrides the setting entirely. Disabling telemetrics does not affect app functionality in any way.

Account data

If you sign in (optional - the app works fully without an account), we store:
  • Email (via Supabase OAuth) for account identification
  • Subscription tier for feature access
  • Payment info handled entirely by Paddle (we never see your card)
  • Application settings, only if you are a Pro subscriber and explicitly enable Cloud Sync per device (Settings > Cloud Sync). Settings only - never audio or transcriptions.

GDPR & data rights

You can export or delete all your data from Settings > Data. Data export is rate-limited to once every 30 days; account deletion (anonymization) requests are processed within a separate 30-day SLA.
